We were fortunate enough to take part again this year in the annual Kaikoura Hop. Over 1000 cars rolled into the Kaikoura race course over the weekend of the 21st September. With our two helicopters stationed down there on the Saturday we offered short scenic flights around the Peninsula to help raise money to go towards the restoration of the community Kaikoura swimming pool. We are pleased to say that we managed to raise just over $5000. So thank you to all those who joined us for a flight. We were spoilt with a beautiful day and fun was had by all. We are already excited for 2020!
One of our first signs of spring is seeing the increase in our migratory whale species. We have been having regular sightings of blue whales, Humpbacks, orca and pilot whales which have made for some pretty incredible and epic whale watching flights!
We have also had a new helicopter join our fleet! We now have a Eurocopter 130, which allows us to fly groups of up to 6! It is the perfect helicopter for whale watching with a spacious cabin and large windows all round for unimpeded viewing!
Over Labour weekend we ran our first heli-rafting trip for the season in conjunction with @Clarence River rafting. If you are looking for an adventure packed day then this tour may just be for you. After heading out for a whale watch we flew our passengers through the mountains till we reached the isolated Clarence river valley. From here our clients jumped into the raft and drifted down the river showing them sights of the Clarence only a handful of tourists will discover due to its remoteness.
It is shaping up to be a great season here in Kaikoura and we can’t wait to see what the rest of spring and summer has in-store for us! Keep an eye out on our social media pages for our latest updates!
