South Pacific Helicopters has partnered with two organisations that work in delivering sustainable projects, and we are committed to contributing to these organisations through their activities.
The first organisation, called Trees for Travellers (local Kaikoura), runs a project where our customers are able to buy a native New Zealand tree which Trees for Travellers then plants on a local Kaikoura Reserve. This is done with a vision to offset carbon emissions caused by travellers in New Zealand. It helps to add to the flora and fauna of our little town, and also helps to attract birdlife back to it.
The next organisation that we have partnered with is Native Forest Restoration Trust (NFRT), and through it we are working to restore the native vegetation, trees and wildlife in this region. Due to environmental degradation and human activities, the forest reserves are slowly becoming barren. This worrisome trend increases the risk of diseases wiping out our native trees, including the kauri, which is typically slow growing but can live up to 2,000 years. NFRT partners such as South Pacific Helicopters are helping fund the restoration of native trees which include kauri, manuka, cabbage trees, karaka, puriri, nikau, kowhai, kahikatea, kohekohe and taraire, among other flora and fauna. This would also help save the threatened bird species such as the brown kiwi, kokako, kaka and NZ pigeon.
We as a business are working towards initiatives that will help us understand, measure and reduce carbon emissions while doing our bit for the planet. So, when you come and enjoy our whale watching tours with us, rest assured that we are doing the best we can to make sure you have a eco-friendly and awesome experience!
